We love welcoming new families, and our Admissions Team would be delighted to show you around our Nursery and chat in more detail about your child’s individual needs.

Our Nursery is open to girls and boys from 2 years and 9 months, starting in the term they turn 3 years. We encourage you to visit us in whichever way suits you best — by attending one of our open events or arranging a personal tour at your convenience.

Children move seamlessly from Nursery to Reception with a guaranteed place, so you may also wish to tour our Infant School during your visit.

03. TASTER SESSION

Once we have received your registration form and confirmed availability, we will invite your child to attend a 'Stay and Play' session in our Nursery.

This visit provides a wonderful opportunity for your child to experience life in the Nursery — taking part in engaging activities, meeting our staff and current pupils, and allowing us to ensure that St Nicholas’ is the right fit for your family.

04. OFFER OF A PLACE

Offers will be made within one week, and you will be asked to indicate your preferred session times (e.g. morning, afternoon, or full day). Places are allocated strictly in the order in which registrations are received.

Parents are asked to confirm their acceptance by the date specified in the offer letter. A deposit of £500 is also payable at this time.

Once we have received your acceptance and deposit, your child’s place will be confirmed. You will then be invited to attend additional 'Stay and Play' sessions to help ease your child into Nursery life and ensure a smooth and happy transition.

During your visit, you'll explore our facilities and meet our dedicated, friendly staff. If you would also like to tour our Junior and Senior Schools, please allow a little extra time during your visit.

Our Infant School welcomes girls and boys aged 4 to 7. Children can join our Infant School at any point during the academic year, in any year group, subject to availability.

03. TASTER DAY

Once we have received your registration form and confirmed availability, we will invite your child to attend a Taster Day.

This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to experience life at St Nicholas’ School — to enjoy a fun-filled day of varied activities and lessons, meet current pupils and staff, and help ensure we’re the right fit for your family.

During the Taster Day, your child will be paired with a buddy who will welcome them and provide support throughout the day, helping them feel comfortable and included.

There is no formal assessment for entry into our Infant School. Instead, your child will take part in a gently observed session involving Mathematics and English-based activities as part of the day.

We also host Taster Events throughout the year, which your child will be invited to once registered.

With very few exceptions, all Year 6 pupils are guaranteed a place in the Senior School and transition seamlessly into Year 7.

Our Senior School welcomes girls aged 11 to 16, with admissions accepted throughout the academic year in most year groups, subject to availability and successful completion of our entrance assessments.

Year 7 applicants will be invited to sit an entrance examination and, if applying before January, will also have the opportunity to be considered for a scholarship.

UPCOMING TASTER EVENTS

04. ADMISSIONS ASSESSMENT

Year 7 Entry
Once registered, your daughter will be invited to attend our annual Entrance Examinations Morning, where she will complete an online CEM assessment covering verbal, non-verbal, and numerical ability. She will also complete a creative writing piece as part of the assessment.

There is no need for any special preparation. These tests are designed to assess potential rather than prior attainment.

During the morning, your daughter will also take part in an informal group discussion with members of our Senior Management Team — a relaxed opportunity for her to get to know us better, while beginning to form new friendships.

At this stage, we will also contact her current school to request a confidential reference.

Scholarship Assessments are held in January.

Year 8 Entry and Above
Once registered, your daughter will be invited to attend a Taster Day. As part of the day, she will sit an assessment in Mathematics and complete an English creative writing piece.

We will also contact her current school to request a confidential reference at this time.

05. OFFER OF A PLACE

If your daughter is successful in her assessment we will make an offer of a place.

Offers are typically made within one week. We kindly ask that acceptances and deposits are submitted by the date specified in the offer letter. A £500 deposit is also payable to secure your daughter’s place.

Girls joining the Senior School in the autumn term are warmly invited to attend an Induction Day during the summer term. In addition, our new Year 7 pupils are invited to a Transition Day at the start of the academic year — a fun and friendly familiarisation day held just before the rest of the school returns.
